Binyindo Gorilla Group
The Binyindo family group a group of Mountain Gorillas found in the Buhoma sector. North of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park. This family of gorillas is the latest addition to gorilla families in the Buhoma sector of Bwindi impenetrable forest. The group followed by rangers and researchers for about 3 years before it was opened for tourism. The Binyindo Gorilla Group is comprised of 6 members and is led by 1 silverback named Binyindo. The Binyindo family includes 2 Adult females, 2 sub-adult females and 1 infant.
Out of the entire World’s Gorilla population, Uganda is home to about 600 mountain gorillas. Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park holds most of this population. And it has over the years seen the gorillas through the habituation process to ease trekkers’ encounters with the gorillas. 21 Habituated Gorilla Groups to look out for when on a Gorilla Safari to Bwindi. Seen in either Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga or Nkuringo sectors.
Meanwhile, The Binyindo family first opened to visitors in 2018 and since then. They have become one of the most interesting Gorilla families to Trek in the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park. Tourists who trek to see the Binyindo family oftenly rewarded with close up encounters with these gentle giants. Unlike other gorilla groups, Binyindo’s home range set above the Ivi River trail. Along the border with Sarambwe Nature Reserve in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Binyindo family is a valuable asset to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest since they help to promote Tourism in the park. This in return helps to support conservation efforts. This family also serves as an essential educational resource for those visitors who learn about the importance of Mountain Gorilla conservation.
The Mountain gorilla permits in Uganda booked depending on availability as per sector. You can either book gorilla permits for the northern sector of Buhoma, Eastern sector of Ruhija or the Southern sectors of Nkuringo and Rushaga. Once you are on the know of the region where your gorilla permit has been booked, you are then free to ask for a gorilla family of your choice on the gorilla trekking day. It is important to note that the Gorilla family allocations depends on the visitor’s interest and also their physical fitness. Since some sectors are on high altitudes whereas others are on low altitudes.
Before starting your gorilla trekking adventure, you will attend a briefing conducted by experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) guides at the Park Headquarters. These guides will provide you with important information about the gorillas. The safety precautions when you are with the gorillas and also what to expect during your trekking adventure.
Gorilla Trekking experience starts as you venture into the dense and lush jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable forest. The trek can vary in duration ranging from 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the Binyindo gorilla family on that day. Throughout the trek, you will be accompanied by an experienced ranger guide and trackers who are familiar with the forest. They will lead you through the terrain ensuring your safety, these guides will also provide you with valuable information about the gorillas and their behaviours.
Once you encounter the gorillas, you will spend a full hour in their presence, this time allows you to observe their behavior, interactions and daily activities such as feeding, playing and grooming. Also use this hour to ask your ranger guide as many questions as possible about this gorilla family. You will have the chance to take pictures and appreciate these incredible creatures while maintaining a safe distance.
